The chair of Mechanics strategically strives for is a well-balanced equilibrium of fundamental research and applied science. Thus, finding new ways of entering the field of traditional engineering via modern and numerically assisted methods is essential.
Simplified and narrowed down, our research activities can be regarded as “Material Mechanics”. But hence, also the thermodynamic view on models is closely connected to our research. Another research field that requires special attention is the research of mechanical phase transformations in metals and their consequences for the macroscopic material behavior. The main operating tool for analyzing these material processes is therefore, a high-performing HPC cluster (of about 100CPUs).
